The Philadelphia Flyers can win because…
The Jets should have Ondrej Pavelec back in net. On the season, Pavelec has a 3.28 GAA and he’s struggled big time. He missed Saturday’s contest while battling the flu but after two days of practice, looks like he’ll be getting the start.
The NHL odds makers are siding with the Jets tonight, while giving them a -130 price tag. I think that this is a bit too much, but with a few question marks remaining on the rosters, I feel that we are better off looking elsewhere for value.
Over Pavelec’s last seven starts, the average combined score between the teams has been seven goals. On top of that, last season, he gave up 17 goals in four matchups against the Flyers so maybe this is the spark they need to get back in action.
The Winnipeg Jets can win because…
The Flyers are a brutal team this year – especially on the road. The Flyers are coming off a 5-2 shellacking at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who previously had just one win at home. Now they have to travel to Winnipeg on a back-to-back and hope that things turn around.
On top of that, the Flyers were forced to use both goaltenders last night as Ilya Bryzgalov gave up four goals on 14 shots and was pulled in favor of Brian Boucher halfway through the game.
The Flyers have one road win in seven tries this season. They aren’t likely to turn that around on Monday.
Outlook & Pick
This game is really all about who’s in net. If Jets head coach Claude Noel goes back to Pavelec, I like the over and a I like the Flyers. If it’s Al Montoya because Pavelec isn’t 100%, I would place my NHL pick on the Jets.
In any case, since we are writing this well in advance, we’ll go with the over.
