It has been hard to invest in Philadelphia this season, and that looks to be the case tonight when the Flyers make the short trip to face the NY Islanders. How can NHL bettors maximize their profits in tonight's game?

We’ve covered three games in the daily NHL picks articles and the Carolina-Montreal game is individually previewed, which leaves us a few games to choose from for our final pick on Monday.

My initial leans would be Anaheim -1.5 and Calgary-Phoenix over. However, we’ll leave those as leans, as I have decided to add a play on the Islanders-Flyers contest to my free picks tonight

Record: 46-50 (-307)

The Philadelphia Flyers can win because…

The Isles are inconsistent. Sure, they’ve won two straight but they also lost five straight before that. They’re a young team and you never know what you’re going to get with them.

The Flyers have lost two straight but losing to playoff-caliber teams like New Jersey and Montreal – on the road, no less – is nothing to be embarrassed about. The Isles are not in the same league and Philadelphia should be able to flex their muscle in this contest.

The New York Islanders can win because…

The Flyers just aren’t worth it. Any way you cut it, Philadelphia has not played well this season and there’s no reason to be betting them – particularly on the road.

The Flyers are just 2-8-0 on the road this season and while the Isles aren’t great at home, they are coming into this contest with more momentum. They’ve won two straight over the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils, and have scored nine goals in the process.

They are at home and they are in the better mind frame right now.

Outlook & Pick

It’s hard to invest in the Flyers right now. It’s tempting to take them as a road dog on the NHL odds given what we know of their pedigree but right now, they are just not that team. They have scored only 38 goals this season and have been awful on the road. The Isles are the play here.

NHL Pick: Islanders -115 at Pinnacle
