The Calgary Flames and the Arizona Coyotes are probably in a position that neither wants to really win because its getting to the point that teams really win by losing. See today's NHL picks here.

Arizona Wildcats vs. Calgary Flames
Something has to give. The Arizona Coyotes have beaten the Calgary Flames three times this season but we have to figure in the fact that the Coyotes are currently mired in the franchise worst road losing streak sitting currently at 10 games. They have lost nine of their last 10 while scoring just 18 goals in their last 12 road games.

They were in a perfect position to break the streak at Vancouver after taking a 2-0 lead but from that point the Coyotes played careless and out of position leading to their 3-2 overtime loss.

Louis Domingue will start in goal for the 'Yotes. Domingue is in the midst of a 0-8-1 road losing streak which carries a 2.75 goals against average. With Mike Smith out it's not inconceivable the the Rookie Domingue will have to make the mass majority of starts left in the season. The Coyotes are last in goals against allowing 3.1 goals per night. You never want to bet that a team will somehow be more than their records or statistical rankings indicate. The Coyotes are a bad defensive team.

If times weren't tough enough for Arizona, defensemen James Tinordi was just suspended for 20 games for violating the leagues performances enhancing drug policy. At 6-6, 225, his size and toughness will be missed. We'll see how this will affect the NHL odds boards soon enough.

The Flames are trying to win consecutive games at home for the first time in two months and they might get a break as the Coyotes could be without star defenseman, Oliver Ekman-Larsson. He has a point in each of the first three meetings against the Flames. The teams best player could miss his second game with an upper body injury.

Calgary has now earned a point in three straight games and ended a 0-1-2 home skid with Wednesday's 3-2 overtime victory against Nashville. I also like allot of the comments coming out of the Flames lockeroom. With all the turmoil in Calgary it's easy to mail it in but I hear words like expectations and play hard. The focus is on finishing up strong, working hard over the Summer, and be ready for next season.

Betting Analysis
A few interesting trends in this game. We can't forget that the Coyotes are only playing on one days rest. They are a less than sparkling 22-47 in this spot. The Flames won't make the playoffs this season but there is plenty to be optimistic about. When teams are starting to turn their franchise around you first have to see how they preform against other struggling teams. The Flames have an amazing 22-7 record when playing teams with a road record of less than .400. Meaning they beat up on the weak.

We like the Flames and making it our NHL pick in this one because we can't trust the Coyotes to all of a sudden find a way to play defense in front on Domingue. @DanaLaneSports
