It might not be the most appealing of matchups, but that doesn't mean that there is no value on offer for our NHL picks tonight. Find out what the hockey odds makers have laid out for us tonight.

The Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche are the two worst teams in the NHL. They’ll get together on Monday night in what should be a game featured on ESPN but unfortunately, will only be seen by those who have NHL Center Ice and a stomach for awful games.

Let’s see if we can find some great value for our sports picks in this contest.

Record: 112-131 (-1233)

The Calgary Flames can win because…

They are at least better than the Avalanche. That’s not saying much but they are a point better than them in the standings.

The Flames might be one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL (allowing 3.51 goals per game) but they won’t be facing an offensive juggernaut in Colorado. The Avs have scored two or fewer in six straight games.

The Colorado Avalanche can win because…
The Avs have lost four straight and eight of nine. The Flames are a bad team but they’ll be on even footing here.

The Flames are a horrible road team. Calgary has just three wins in 18 road games this season, which is pathetic. They head into Colorado riding a 13-game road losing streak.

As mentioned above, the Flames are giving up a league-high 3.51 goals per game. What’s worse is that their scoring drops off significantly when they are on the road compared to at home. At the Saddledome, the Flames score the second-highest average at 3.42 goals per game. On the road, that drops to 1.89, which is 28th in the NHL. Home-ice advantage should be significant in this game and it’s a big reason why the Avs are a sizable favorite on the NHL odds even though they are so bad.

Outlook & Pick

Would you rather take a shot with the Flames, who have been one of the worst road NHL picks this season? Or the Avs, who are the worst team in the NHL? Yes, this is an ugly game to handicap but I’ll take a shot with the over. It’s paying plus-money and the goaltenders are both side are struggling.
