Our capper breaks down tonight’s NHL game between the Capitals/Flames. Join us in reading his NHL betting preview article on this non-conference tilt which concludes with a moneyline free pick.

Capital Concern in Calgary
The Flames will entertain the Capitals at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary with a scheduled start time of 10:05 PM ET. According to the NHL odds at Bookmaker, the Capitals are a -115 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. These teams split the 2-games against each other last season, and both games easily went over the total.

Western Canada Road Trip for Caps
This will be the 2nd of a 3-game in 5-day Western Canadian road trip for Washington. The journey certainly didn’t get off on the right foot for the Capitals as they dropped a 3-2 decision at Edmonton on Wednesday. The trip will conclude tomorrow in Vancouver. The loss to the Oilers evened the Capitals record at 3-3 in the early going. The power play has been on a torrid pace over their past 5-games by converting on an excellent 35.3% of their man advantage opportunities. The Capitals have limited opponents to an average of just 24.2 shots on goal per game.

On an Under Roll
The Calgary Flames are off to a decent 5-4 start, and dating back to last season they’ve gone 24-17 in their last 41-games against the money line. The Flames have made low scoring games the flavor of the day in Calgary. They’ve haven’t seen any of their previous 7-games go over the total. They’re coming off a dominating 5-0 home win over Carolina on Thursday. This will be the 3rd of a 5-game in 11-day home stand for the Flames. Former Anaheim Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller has been fantastic in his first 5-starts for the Flames by posting a terrific .948 save percentage. Calgary has also gone under the total in 22 of their 34-games versus Eastern Conference opponents the past 2-seasons.

NHL Money Line Betting System
Any team (Calgary) that’s playing in the first half of the season, coming off a home shutout win, and they have a winning record, has gone 79-25 (76%) against the moneyline since 2009. This system favors the home standing Flames, and it will be used for one of my NHL picks today.
