Tuesday’s meeting could be very interesting as these two Canadian teams are heading in opposite directions. Don’t let the NHL betting odds mislead you.

15 points separate the Montreal Canadiens and Calgary Flames in the league standings but that is not an accurate assessment of how the two teams are playing these days.

The Calgary Flames Can Win Because…

They’ve won five straight and are playing some of their best hockey of the season. The Flames only had five wins total between December 10th and January 20th (in 21 games) but they’ve managed to turn things around with a five-game winning streak. Their offense has been leading the way as they’ve tallied 21 goals during their streak.

On the flip side, Montreal has lost six of eight including four of their last five at home. They’ve scored one goal or less in five of their last seven. That’s not the type of team you want to be taking with your NHL picks.

The Montreal Canadiens Can Win Because….

Calgary’s five-game winning streak all came at home. The Flames are one of the worst teams in the NHL but they are marginally better at home (12-17) than they are on the road (9-17). The Flames have lost eight of their last 10 away games.

Although Montreal has struggled recently, most of that is to do with their lackluster offense failing to produce. The good news is Calgary gives up the third-most goals-per-game in the NHL at 3.09 per clip, so the Habs should be able to get back on track.

Outlook & Pick

The Habs are a massive favorite on the NHL odds but you’d have to be crazy to lay that juice. The Flames have won four straight in this series and are worth a small shot here with your sports picks even though they’re a big underdog.
