Picking a Side
Whether we’re talking about the NHL, NFL, NBA, or MLB; picking a side in an all-star game is an absolute crap shoot. I will offer you strictly an opinion without any type of foundational handicapping principles factored in. Claiming that I have a method to my madness when picking an all star game would be an insult to your intelligence, and quite frankly is a very good way to deplete my credibility. If you’re going to make a wager on this contest today, air on the side of caution by being ultra conservative.

Goaltending Edge
If all else fails then start with the goaltenders on both sides. Both teams have three goaltenders on their roster that will each play one period. Since these contests rarely have any sort of physicality displayed, in addition to virtually no emphasis on tight checking or defensive detail, the collective goaltending of one of the teams usually plays a key role in the outcome. I’m giving the edge to the Team Foligno trio of Carey Price, Marc-Andre Fleury, and Brian Elliot; over the triumvirate of Cory Crawford, Roberto Luongo, and Jaroslav Halak. Based solely on that factor, I’m going to have the tiniest of leans on Team Foligno when making my NHL pick today.
