Who will be mentally ready? The Sharks have had plenty of rest against the Predators, who may need some time to find their legs again. NHL pick & game preview inside.

Nashville Predators vs. San Jose Sharks
It seems like the same breakdown as the Dallas/Blues match-up and it is because both games feature psychological factors that are hard to quantify because we don't know who has the advantage when we compare the Predators that were taken to seven games against the Sharks who have been resting for a week.

The Sharks opened up as a big favorite of -170 and that number has come down at most spots so it's clear that the public thinks the team who has played more recent has the advantage but I tend to think that if we are going to see the best out of the Sharks it's going to be in the first period which gives us a much better betting value at -145.

To add a little fuel to the mix Nashville Goaltender Pekka Rinne came out and said that he believes that Nashville is better than the remaining teams that they would face. I'm not sure why players insist on saying these things but certainly the Sharks have taken notice which is why the first period looks inviting as I anticipate this being a period of payback. The comments may have stemmed from the Predators taking two of three from the Sharks this season but  taking a closer look at these three games would tell you that the Sharks were the better of the two including in the last meeting at the Bridgestone Arena where the Sharks were in complete control. It's a curious statement made by a player who has had consistency issues this season which were carried into the playoffs.

His words probably have made their way to Martin Jones who was much better than Rinne in the first round.  In Jones last four games he's 3-1 with a 1.97 goals against average. That's what you want out of a your goaltending if you're a serious Cup contender. This also an opportunity for Jones who owns a 0-2-2 record against the Predators to beat them for the first time on a big stage.

Let's not put too much into this home ice record of 18-20-3 which is the worst among playoff participants. I want to put more of my efforts in applauding the Sharks for being 13-3 against teams with a winning record in their last 16 games.  This is a more telling statistic instead of basing your opinion on a record that dates back to October.

From a trend perspective the 'under' is 7-0 in their last seven meetings in San Jose.

What we're going to do tonight is play the first period to go 'under' 1.5 on the NHL odds at -145 and then the game as well at +110.  If you cash that early ticket then obviously you are on your way to cashing the game 'under'.  I'm going to follow that up with a play on the Sharks in the first period at -145 as my NHL pick which is bringing that game price down a bit.
