The New York Rangers host the Anaheim Ducks today at Madison Square Garden. Have we decided to look at the total or the ML with our NHL picks in tonights matchup.

The New York Rangers have won three straight games and have finally gotten their season back on track. Clearly, starting the season on a nine-game road trip was a big burden and playing at home over the last week has helped them greatly. On Monday, they’ll get tested by the Anaheim Ducks, who have won 11 of their 15 games to start the season.

The Anaheim Ducks can win because…

The Rangers don’t beat quality teams. People who make their sports picks should note that while the Rangers have won four of five, those wins have come against teams like the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes. That’s not particularly impressive. Anaheim is going to be a big step up in competition and so far, the Rangers haven’t shown that they are capable of handling a quality team just yet.

The New York Rangers can win because…

They’ve finally got their mojo going. Coming back home has given this team a huge boost as they have won four of their last five games. More importantly, their goaltending and defense has returned to its elite form as the Rangers have allowed just seven goals in their last five games. The Rangers don’t score a whole lot, so they need to keep the opponent under wraps. They are not build for shootouts.

Outlook & Pick

The Rangers are a home dog on the NHL odds but they might be worth a look. They’ve played well recently while the Ducks are winding down a long road trip. This will be the final game of their eight-game road trip and fatigue is probably setting in. Take a small shot with the Rangers with your NHL picks as they should be able to sneak out a win here.
