The Anaheim Ducks are virtually locked in as the second seed in the Western Conference, but they sure haven’t played like it recently.

NHL Betting: Ducks vs Flames Picks

The Ducks have lost three straight, which ties them for the longest current losing streak of any of the current 16 playoff teams. They’ll get a softball on Friday when they visit the Calgary Flames but will they be able to take advantage?

Record: 130-150 (-1082)

The Anaheim Ducks can win because…

The Flames are pathetic. Even though Calgary is coming off a win, they basically needed two own-goals from Detroit to get the win. Yes, Detroit all but scored on themselves twice to hand the Flames a 3-2 win on Wednesday, but that’s what Calgary has to resort to these days.

The Ducks have faced the Flames twice this season and they’ve won both meetings. They’ve netted nine goals in the two games, so a matchup with the Flames is exactly what the doctor ordered for their struggling offense.

The Calgary Flames can win because…

They are actually playing some of their best hockey of the season. Experts making their NHL picks might find it hard to believe but the Flames have won three of four and four of six.

The Ducks are in a major funk right now as they’ve lost three in a row while scoring just four goals in the process. They really have no reason to be up for this game, so Calgary could continue to play spoiler and keep the Ducks in the losing column.

Outlook & Pick

The Ducks have dropped nine of their last 14 games and are clearly not the team they were earlier in the season. Going back to Calgary – two games in a row – could be going back to the wishing well too many times but simply from a value perspective, you have to like the Flames. The Ducks should be favored on the NHL odds but not by this much.
