The Canucks host the Ducks on Friday at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada with the opening faceoff slated for 10:05 PM ET. The Coyotes have had luck recently when having played 3 games in 4 days. But is that enough to earn our NHL pick? Lets take a look at what the odds are offering.

According to NHL betting odds the Canucks are a -145 money line home favorite and the posted total is 5.5. These two clubs have seen 9 of the last 11 meetings played in Vancouver go under the total. Phoenix has defeated Vancouver just 6-times in the last 22-games these teams have squared off.

Return from a happy Trip

Vancouver returns home tonight after going 3-1 on their recent 4-game road trip. Tonight will be the first of a 5-game in 9-day home stand for the Canucks. Unfortunately they’ve been much better on the road (10-7), than at home (5-8) this season. The Canucks penalty killing has been the best in the NHL allowing opponents to convert on just a paltry 11% of their power play chances. Inexplicably the power play has been on the opposite end of the spectrum. Vancouver has converted on just 14.1% of their man advantage situations, which ranks a dismal 26th in the league. Vancouver has dropped their last 6-games in a row versus an opponent with a winning record. The Canucks have gone over the total in just 4 of their last 22 home games.

Wily Coyotes

You can make the case that Phoenix has been one of the early surprises in the Western Conference. They’re currently in 4th place in the Pacific Division, and are 8th overall in the Western Conference. This will be their 3rd game in the last 4-days with all of those contests taking place on the road. Phoenix has gone 4-1 in their last 5 when playing their 3rd game in 4-days. The Coyotes have gone over the total in 7 of their last 9-games overall. They’ve allowed 4-goals or more in 6 of their last 9-games.

Final Analysis

I know the Coyotes have had recent success when playing 3-games in 4-days. However, they will be facing a Vancouver team that comes off a successful road trip, and will be eager to start winning consistently at home again. I have the smallest of leans on adding the home favorite to our NHL picks.
