Sports handicapper Ian Cameron provides an NHL Early Lines Report for the hockey card taking place on Tuesday, October 18. After a tough loss, and being criticized by their own coach the Oilers have to be in it to win it when they face the Hurricanes. There is also a free hockey pick at the end of the article.

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Edmonton Oilers

The Carolina Hurricanes have gotten off to a very ominous start to their season as they held a pair of 3rd Period leads against Winnipeg and Vancouver yet couldn’t hang on to either one suffering a pair of blown leads and losing 5-4 in OT at Winnipeg and 4-3 in OT in Vancouver after leading by 2+ goals in both games. That is an early mental hurdle that Carolina must try to overcome as they travel to Edmonton to face what should be a highly motivated and angry Edmonton Oilers squad coming off an embarrassing and flat performance on home ice Sunday night in a 6-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

It was a loss that had Edmonton Oilers head coach Todd McLellan openly criticizing his team in the postgame press conference. I expect the Oilers to respond with a much stronger performance and better effort in this game on Tuesday night. Connor McDavid had two marvelous games as the new captain of the Oilers prior to getting shut down by the Sabres on Sunday night but he is one of the best young players in the NHL and I expect him to strongly rebound in this game.

Carolina’s goaltending is a major reason why they haven’t been able to protect leads so far with Cam Ward and Eddie Lack not being what I would consider #1 goalie material in the NHL at this stage of their careers but that is what the Hurricanes have to go with in between the pipes and the result has been 9 goals allowed in their first two games. Make sure to check the odds listed in the best sportsbooks online before making your hockey pick.

It’s worth noting that Edmonton is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings against Carolina here in Edmonton including an Oilers victory at home against the Hurricanes last season. I expect Edmonton to respond in a big way from their awful performance against Buffalo with a rock solid victory on Tuesday night.
