NHL Betting On Thursday
This could turn out to be a first-round playoff matchup, so expect both teams to take this contest very seriously.
Record: 128-145 (-864)
The Washington Capitals can win because…
No team can slow them down right now. Washington has not only won eight straight but they are 14-3-1 in their last 18 games. Whatever head coach Adam Oates is putting in their Wheaties, they are eating up.
Everything is going well for the Caps these days. Goaltender Braden Holtby is playing out of his mind with a 2.29 GAA over the last two months with a save percentage near .930. That’s more than good enough when Alex Ovechkin is playing like a league MVP. He has 19 goals and nine assists in his last 18 games.
Things are going really well for Washington these days and it’s tough not to include them in your NHL picks.
The Ottawa Senators can win because…
They are one of the best home teams in the NHL. The Sens are 14-3-3 at home this season, which ties them for the third-most home wins by any team this season.
The Sens come into this game as winners of three straight while riding the stellar goaltending of Craig Anderson. While most people probably wouldn’t notice it, Anderson actually leads the league in goals-against average (1.55). He is 4-1-1 in his last six with a 2.17 GAA against Washington.
With Anderson leading the way, the Sens could be a good investment with such a small price tag on the NHL odds at home.
Outlook & Pick
As much of a home-ice advantage Ottawa has had this season, it’s worth noting that they are just 3-3 in their last six at home.
That being the case, I’ll take my chances with the hottest team in the league. The Capitals have been on fire over the last month and I’ll bank on that hot streak lasting at least one more game.
