Free NHL picks for tonight's battle between the Vancouver Canucks and the San Jose Sharks. Find out where we have decided to place our NHL picks in this matchup.

The Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks will square off on Monday night in what could very well be a playoff preview. Currently, the Canucks have 44 points and are the fourth seed in the West while the Sharks have 40 points and are sixth.

Record: 106-113 (-19)

The Vancouver Canucks can win because…

Aside from their hiccup on Saturday, the Canucks have been playing well. Vancouver lost 4-0 rather easily in Edmonton on Saturday night after Cory Schneider gave up two goals on two shots and the Canucks never recovered. However, the Canucks won their six games before that.

Even with that loss, the Canucks have won four of their last five road games and have been a decent road bet this season at 9-8. They’ve won five of their last seven trips to HP Pavilion and 10 of the last 15 meetings overall.

The San Jose Sharks can win because…

They are playing very well right now. The Sharks have gotten their second win and have put together a four-game winning streak. When you look at the standings, they are only four points back of the Canucks, so really, there’s not much between these teams.

People making their NHL picks should note that the Sharks have been one of the better home teams this season. They have just one regulation loss at the Shark Tank, which is the fewest in the NHL. They are going to be in this game and likely win it – especially since the Canucks are again having goaltender woes.

Outlook & Pick

The Sharks are playing well and they will have a decided home-ice advantage. They should win the game but given how they’ve played this season, I’m not going to lay any juice with them on the NHL odds

Instead, I’ll take the under. The Sharks have given up just five goals in their last four games and I see them dictating the pace and keeping this game below the total.
