The Vancouver Canucks continue their trek through Alberta and they’ll be hoping their second stop is better than the first. In their matchup with Calgary on Saturday, the Flames lined up with five goons on the ice to start the game and four fights ensued two seconds in the game. The Canucks will be hoping that Tuesday’s affair is more about hockey than it is about scrapping it out for our NHL picks.

The Vancouver Canucks Can Win Because….

The Oilers can’t but a win these days. The Oilers have been horrible all season but are now spinning their wheels once more. They’ve dropped nine of their last 11 games and if you’re adding them to your sports picks these days, you’re crazy.

The Canucks are at least competent. They’re fighting for a playoff spot and at least have the semblance of a team. The Oilers are a mess that won’t be cleaned up until the offseason. Take the Canucks.

The Edmonton Oilers Can Win Because….

The Canucks are having their own problems these days. Vancouver won 3-2 in a shootout over Calgary on Saturday but before that, had lost three straight. Overall, this is a team that’s dropped eight of 10. Sure, the standings show a wide gap between these two teams but when you look at how they’ve both played recently, it’s not as if the Canucks are playing much better than the Oilers right now.

Vancouver is a -125 favorite on the NHL odds here but don’t assume anything. This is a matchup of two bad teams and anything can happen.

Tuesday NHL Picks of the Day

Outlook & Pick

There’s no reasonable case to be made for the Oilers these days (or pretty much ever) and the Canucks are having their own problems. That’s going to keep me away from the side in this game.

Instead, I’ll take a shot with the under for my NHL picks. The Canucks have had a tough time scoring recently as they’ve tallied just five goals in their last five games. With a healthy Roberto Luongo in net, we should see a low scoring affair.
