The Vancouver Canucks have fallen and they can’t get up. In December, they were a sure-fire playoff team. On Thursday, they’ll be trying to avoid their longest losing streak in five years when they visit the Montreal Canadiens.

The Vancouver Canucks Can Win Because…

Montreal has problems too. Sure, they beat the lowly Calgary Flames 2-0 in their most recent contest but prior to that, they cost bettors some juice on the NHL odds with back-to-back losses to Winnipeg and Tampa Bay. And even though they’re coming off a win, they’ve still dropped six of nine.

The Montreal Canadiens Can Win Because….

The Canucks are a mess. They’ve lost five straight and while that’s pretty bad, it’s actually their second five-game losing streak since December 30th. They are just 4-14 in their last 18 games, which is simply atrocious.

Montreal has had its fair share of struggles recently but comes into this game on a 3-1-1 run. Their goaltending issues have been corrected as they’ve allowed just five goals in their last five. If you’re making your NHL picks here, they’re clearly the team that’s playing better.

Outlook & Pick

The Canucks are banged up on their blue line, they are playing horribly right now and they’re probably going to be fatigued. This is their fourth game in a five-game road trip and it’s their third game in four nights. Their power play is mired in a one-for-27 slump and they’ve lost five of their last six in the series. At -130, the Habs are definitely the smart play for your NHL picks.

The under might also be worth consideration as both goaltenders, Roberto Luongo and Carey Price, are the two goaltenders Team Canada will choose from as a starter once the 2014 Winter Olympics begin this weekend. Both might be looking to put on a show – especially going head-to-head. The under is 6-3 in the Canucks nine road games where the total has been five, 9-4 when the Habs are at home with the same total and 9-2 in the last 11 in Montreal in this series.
