Free NHL picks for tonight's battle between the Vancouver Canucks and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Find out where we have decided to place our NHL picks in this matchup.

What’s gotten into the Columbus Blue Jackets? They’ve gone 5-0-2 in their last seven games to produce 12 points. They had that same amount of points through their first 19 games of the season. Even though they’re hot and Vancouver is not, the NHL odds makers still list the Canucks as a huge favorite on the money line for Tuesday’s matchup.

Record: 79-90 (-602)

The Vancouver Canucks can win because…

Columbus is a fraud. As good as they’ve played recently, the Blue Jackets are still one of the worst teams in the NHL. Vancouver has some huge talent advantages and should be able to put them to good use on Tuesday.

The Blue Jackets have won five straight but two of those wins were against Detroit, which is a team Columbus dominates for some reason, and then they also beat Colorado and Edmonton. That’s nothing to write home about.

Prior to this hot spell, the Blue Jackets had won just five of their first 20 games, so take this stretch with a grain of salt.

The Columbus Blue Jackets can win because…

They’re the better team right now. Not only are the Blue Jackets coming into this game with more momentum as they’ve won five straight, the Canucks come in on a downturn. Vancouver has lost four straight and has just one win in their last seven.

The Blue Jackets are working hard and are playing well. The Canucks are not. How much simpler does it get?

Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky is on first right now as he is 4-0-0 with a 0.81 GAA in his last five games. Roberto Luongo is expected to get the start for Vancouver and he’s lost each of his last four starts in Columbus while posting a 2.49 GAA.

Outlook & Pick

A lot of people want to be skeptical of Columbus but why not just stick with the trend? Given how these two teams have played recently, you’d be crazy to place your sports picks on the Canucks at -150 in this spot. As a matter of fact, given the trends, you’d be crazy not to sprinkle a little bit on Columbus. They shouldn’t be this big of a home dog.

Also, I expect this game to be low-scoring as the Canucks have had a power-outage recently, scoring just 18 goals in their last eight games. Take the under.

NHL Pick: Under 5.5 at Pinnacle
