Ross Benjamin examines the NHL betting odds in the game between the Canucks/Blues tonight. Read this insightful NHL betting preview article that includes a free pick on the total.

Miller Time in St. Louis
The Blues entertain the Canucks in a Western Conference battle tonight at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis with a scheduled 8:05 PM ET start. According to NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, the Blues are a -170 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. At the time of this writing, the Sportsbook Review consensus report indicates, 53% of the money line action has gone the way of the Canucks, and 89% of the total wagers made were on going over the number. Surprisingly enough, the Canucks have won the last 4 meetings between these teams. The scheduled starting goaltenders for tonight are Ryan Miller for the Canucks, and rookie Jake Allen for the Blues.

Fast Start and an Abrupt Halt
The Canucks began the season by winning their first 3-games, and then have dropped the last 2 heading into tonight. The 3-0 start could be categorized as fool’s gold considering they faced Edmonton twice and Calgary on the other occasion. They were handed a dose of reality in their last 2-games by losing to Tampa Bay and Dallas. The Canucks were outscored in those 2-games by a cumulative score of 10-5. This will be the Canucks 2nd of a 3-game in 4-day road trip which concludes tomorrow in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche. Vancouver has seen 4 of the first 5-games go over the total. Newly acquired veteran goaltender Ryan Miller has found the transition to his new club not to be a seamless endeavor. He’s posted a subpar .884 save percentage in 4-starts.

Blues in need of a Wake-up Call
The St. Louis Blues have been a bit disappointing to start the season with all being considered. Although it’s still extremely early, the Blues are 2-3 thus far, and have been held scoreless on two separate occasions. The good news is they will enter tonight with 3-days of rest following a 3-0 defeat at Anaheim on Sunday. St. Louis may be without two of their top offensive players tonight. Alexander Steen is suffering from the flu, and Paul Stasny is nursing a shoulder injury.

NHL Totals Betting System
Any road team with a total of 5.0 or less, coming off 1 or more losses in a row, and has a winning percentage of .510 to .600 on the season, versus an opponent with a winning percentage of .250 to .400, has seen 32 of those 41-games (78%) go under the total since 1996. This system is strong enough in my eyes to recommend a totals play for your NHL picks today.
