On Fire
Off-the-ice issues are a thing of the past for Blackhawks’ forward Patrick Kane and his play on the ice seems to be reflecting that fact. The undisputed front-runner for NHL MVP, Kane is currently enjoying the longest point streak of his career (tied) at 14 games. In those 14 outings he has contributed 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists). Kane also had a career-best seven-game goal streak until he did not find the back of the net on Wednesday at Edmonton.

On the other side of the ice, goalie Corey Crawford is 9-5-1 with a decent 2.44 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage. He made 34 saves in the 4-3 overtime win against the Oilers. Chicago has gone five straight games without giving up more than three goals.

What Long, Strange Trip It’s Been
The Canucks will be playing at home for the first time since Nov. 2 when they host Chicago. The seven-game road trip on which they just went was nothing short of an unmitigated disaster. Thursday’s 4-1 loss to Winnipeg ended Vancouver’s journey at 1-4-2.

If you lose a lot of those close games it’s because you make a few too many mistakes,” captain Henrik Sedin explained. “We’re good enough that we can win those games, but at the same time we make a few too many mistakes to really earn those games. That’s been our problem.”

Primary starter Ryan Miller, who is expected to be in net against the Blackhawks, lost all five of his starts on the trip. Miller has allowed at least three goals in his last six outings, including four on two occasions during the trip.

“Going on a trip like that, losing points like we did, it’s not ideal, but it can be something you use the right way or you make it detrimental to your season,” Miller said. “We’re trying to use it the right way and be a better overall team.”

Must Read: Methods for Picking NHL Winners

The Chicago Blackhawks are:

4-1 in their last four overall

4-0 in their last four games against the Western Conference

4-1 in their last five games against teams with losing records

The Vancouver Canucks are:

0-4 in their last four overall

2-6 in their last eight home games

1-6 in their last seven games against teams with winning records

The Blackhawks have been solid on the defensive end of late, which has been more than enough in support of Chicago’s utterly outstanding offensive weaponry. Kane is as close to automatic as anyone else in the league to score a goal every time he takes the ice. Vancouver has absolutely no momentum right now and this is probably the opponent against which things will turn around. The Blackhawks are 4-1 in their last five overall and 4-0 in their last four against the Western Conference. Take Chicago as your NHL pick against the NHL odds.
