The Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers meet Thursday night for a Game 6 battle, and the cappers at SBR Forum are all over this matchup. Is it the total or moneyline that has gotten their attention?

Talk about a curveball in Game 5. After the Montreal Canadiens had scored just eight goals in the first four games of the Eastern Conference finals, the Habs poured in seven in Game 5. Maybe they’ve figured something out, which would mean they’re a good value play on the NHL odds for Game 6.

The Montreal Canadiens Can Win Because…
They finally got their offense going. Rene Bourque had a hat trick in Game 5, Tomas Plekanec finally scored and David Desharnais lit the lamp. On top of that, their special teams contributed in a big way with a power play goal and a shorthanded marker. The Habs even chased Henrik Lundqvist – if you can believe that.

Montreal has been competent from a defensive perspective with Dustin Tokarski subbing in for Carey Price. However, it had been their offense that had let them down. Now that they finally figured things out, they’ll find a way to get to three goals and win Game 6.

The New York Rangers Can Win Because…
The Habs won’t play like this in Game 6. Montreal had struggled through the first four games of the series but played like they were shot out of a canon in Game 5. Even so, the Rangers managed to hang around. Montreal blew leads of 1-0 and 4-1 at home with their season on the line. How weak is that?

Expect Lundqvist to be much stronger in Game 6 like he typically is. He’s allowed four goals in a game twice this postseason and followed it up by allowing just one goal each time. Take the Rangers with your NHL picks.

Outlook & Pick
Game 5 was an aberration from what we’ve seen in this series. And while the Habs won, it’s an ominous sign that they couldn’t hold a 4-1 lead on their home ice. Expect Lundqvist to shine once more and lead the Rangers to the Stanley Cup finals. I’ll take the 'under' with my NHL picks based on him returning to form.
