Canadiens Can Win Because…
The Rangers are not a good home team. In the regular season, the Rangers were the fourth-best road team in the NHL with a record of 25-14-2. That converts to a winning percentage of .610. As for their home record, they were merely 20-17-4 at Madison Square Garden, which means their winning percentage was .488.
The Habs are no longer expected to win this series, so
the pressure is off them. They’re on the road as an underdog that’s expected to
lose. That’s not the position they wanted to be in, but this might allow them to
play a little looser. That might be exactly what the doctor ordered.
The New York Rangers Can Win Because…
Everything is going their way right now. Not only are the Habs with their ace in the deck as Price is sidelined, they also can’t do anything to stop the Rangers. Ryan McDonagh has been an absolute beast with six points through two games. Martin St. Louis has a pair of goals in this series and Rick Nash – who hadn’t scored a single playoff goal in the first two rounds – already has two in the Eastern Conference final.
Most importantly, goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has been a
brick wall. He’s stopped 60 of the 63 shots he’s faced in this series,
frustrating the Habs time and time again. Without Price, the Habs have no
chance. They’ll come out fighting, but the Rangers will quench the fire and end
up with a 3-0 series lead by the end of it.
Outlook & Pick
It’s pretty hard to consider the Habs with your NHL picks right now. They’re in trouble. They’ve lost confidence as a team, and they have no answers for King Henrik. The Rangers should win Game 3.
However, with the juice being too high, I’ll take the 'over' instead. The Rangers have had no issues scoring, but I do see the Habs going all out in Game 3, as it’s their last stand. They should find a couple of goals to help our cause.
