NHL Picks: Canadiens vs. Lightning Game 2

The Montreal Canadiens cashed as small road dog on the NHL odds in Game 1. Can they do it again in Game 2? The chances are good if Tampa Bay’s MVP Ben Bishop is still not back in the lineup.

The Montreal Canadiens Can Win Because…
They’re the better team. They have the better goaltender (right now), the better blue line and they have more playoff experience. This is going to be a very tight, close series with a lot of one-goal results. But with the margins so thin, it’s tough for the Lightning to win when they don’t have the edge in the majority of categories.

Unless Ben Bishop is back for Game 2, the Habs have to feel very confident. They scored five goals on Tampa Bay and the Habs won’t lose many times these playoffs potting five goals in an outing. They had balanced scoring from their entire roster with 11 different players registering a point. They’re the better choice for your NHL picks.

The Tampa Bay Lightning Can Win Because…
They’ll do a better job of protecting Lindback. When you look at his numbers from Game 1, he was peppered with shots as the Habs fired off 44. If the Lightning can help him out a little bit as they did in his final three starts of the regular season (when he won the NHL’s first star of the week), they’ll be fine. He faced 79 shots in three games then. In Game 1 he faced 44. The Lightning have to help him out.

As for the other end of the ice, Tampa Bay should be encouraged that they got four goals past Carey Price on just 25 shots. He looked very shaky, compiling a weak .840 save percentage.

Game 1 was very tight so if they can just help out Lindback, they’ll even up this series.

Outlook & Pick
I don’t see much changing for Game 2 as long as Lindback is in net. We should see another over as both offenses are clicking and we should see another Habs win as they are the better team. As long as Bishop is out, stick with the same side and total.
