The Price is Right

One of the most encouraging signs for the Canadiens this season has been the superb play of #1 goaltender Carey Price. In 18 starts this season Price has posted a very good 2.02 GAA and an excellent .935 save percentage. Having said all that, the Canadiens have indicated that backup Peter Budaj will likely get the start this evening. Budaj has been terrific in his 4 starts this season posting a brilliant 1.48 GAA and .945 save percentage. The Canadiens are currently 2nd best in the NHL allowing as paltry 2.0 goals per game. Montreal last played on Tuesday, and came away with an impressive 6-2 home win over a very good Minnesota Wild team. Max Pacioretty led the way by scoring a natural hat trick. Pacioretty scored his 3-goals in a span of 10:39 of the 2nd period that catapulted Montreal out to a 3-0 lead.

Dose of Reality

The Capitals entered last night’s home game with the Penguins feeling pretty good about themselves. They had won 3 in a row and 7 of their last 9. Unfortunately they ran into a hot goaltender last night, and were shutout at home 4-0. The Capitals special teams have been excellent to start the year. The power play is 4th in the NHL converting on 23.6% of their chances, and the penalty killing is also 4th at 86.2%.
