Canadiens Can Win Because…
They have the Bruins' number. Remember when the Bruins had an incredible 12-game winning streak this season and Montreal, the 13th opponent, ended it? Well, that wasn’t an accident. The Habs have now won six of the last eight meetings between the teams. For whatever reason, the Bruins' muscle and physicality, while it works on almost every other team in the NHL, doesn’t seem to bother the Habs. Their speed is a problem for the Bruins.
Also, goaltender Tuukka Rask really struggles against Montreal. He has just three wins in 16 career starts against Montreal. The Bruins better be on upset alert here. There’s good reason to take a shot with the dog with your NHL picks.
The Boston Bruins Can
They’re the better team. The Bruins have been the best team in the Eastern Conference throughout the entire season and that’s not going to change in the second round. They allowed the fewest goals in the conference and second-fewest in the NHL. Meanwhile, their offense scored the most goals in the conference too.
The Canadiens don’t have the same type of playoff pedigree. The Bruins ventured to the Stanley Cup finals last year but the Habs are viewed as playoff underachievers. That difference in experience will be the difference in this series.
Outlook & Pick
The Habs play well against Boston and goaltender Carey Price is playing just about as good as he ever has. Combined with the fact that the Habs will be very confident in this series, given their recent success against the Bruins, they should do enough to get the job done. Look for this to be a long series – probably six or seven games – but the Habs are worth a shot. The odds are great considering they’re about 50/50 to advance.
