Canadiens Can Win Because…
They play well against Boston. They’ve won six of the last eight meetings between the teams and will be very confident heading into Game 1. Even though Boston was the best team in the NHL throughout the regular season, Montreal seems to have their number. Their speed seems to cause the Bruins some headaches whiles Boston’s physicality doesn’t seem to hamper the Habs too much.
Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask has just three wins in 16 career starts against the Canadiens. That’s a telling stat. Take a shot with the Habs for your NHL picks.
The Boston Bruins Can
They’re the better team. The Bruins rolled through the regular season, compiling the best point total in the NHL. They’re about as balanced as it gets, having allowed the second-fewest goals in the league while scoring the most goals in the Eastern Conference. That type of balance is going to be hard to beat.
The Bruins lost Game 1 in the first round to the Detroit Red Wings. Look for them to be a little more focused in the second round to avoid an early-series hole.
Outlook & Pick
The Habs are a big road dog on the NHL odds but I’ll take a shot with them. They should be able to earn a split, so I’ll be them in Game 1 and then follow up in Game 2 if they lose Game 1.
