Our resident NHL handicapping professional previews Thursday’s game between the Bruins/Canadiens. Read this insightful NHL betting article which also includes a free pack versus the money line.

Heated Rivalry to the Utmost Degree
The Canadiens will host the Bruins on Thursday at the Bell Centre in Montreal with the opening puck drop slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to NHL betting odds, the Canadiens are a -119 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0 at 5Dimes. This will be a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference Semifinal series which saw Montreal upset Boston in 7-games. The games between these teams have been closely contested. Since the beginning of the 2011-2012 NHL campaign, the Canadiens have won 12 of the 21-games played between these clubs. These teams have also seen just 1 of their last 7-mettings in Montreal go over the total.

Bruins Best Comes with No Rest
The Bruins were a very good 7-4 a season ago when playing on the road with no rest. I was surprised to see they failed to stay under the total in their last 9 when playing on the road with no rest, and those contests averaged 6.8 goals combined. As a matter of fact, the Bruins went 13-4 overall a season ago when playing with no rest, and only 1 of those last 12 stayed under the total. I would be remiss if I failed to mention, heading into last night’s game at Detroit, the Bruins had scored a grand total of 4-goals in their first 4-games of the season, and each of those contests easily stayed under the total by averaging a paltry 3.6 goals combined.

Finally a Home Opener in Montreal
The Canadiens began this season by playing their first 4 on the road, and tonight will be their 2014-2015 opening home game. They return home after winning 3 of those 4-games on the road, although they were extremely flat in their final game of the trip, and were routed 7-1 on Monday versus the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Canadiens saw just 2 of of 11-games at home stay under the total last season when playing on exactly 2-days rest. Montreal was a perfect 9-0 in their last 9 overall last year when playing on 2-days of rest following off a loss.

Final Analysis
Ordinarily I like to fade teams that return home for the first time following a successful road trip of 4-games or more. However, this is a different set of circumstances. The Canadiens will be playing on 2-days rest in their home opener versus a long standing division rival, and that opponent will be playing with no rest. My NHL pick goes to the home team in this one.
