There’s no need to panic. The Bruins showed up in a big way in Game 2 and handled the Red Wings with ease. Now momentum is on their side as the series shifts to Joe Louis Arena for Game 3. The Bruins are laying less juice on the NHL odds and may be worth a look.

The Boston Bruins Can Win Because…
They’ve figured out the Red Wings. Really, it was just a matter of getting their offense going and they did exactly that in Game 2. After Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard looked untouchable in Game 1, he looked like the mediocre goaltender we saw in the regular season. He handed the Bruins their first goal – almost literally – and then the floodgates broke. Whatever confidence he built up in Game 1 has now dissipated. He’s very beatable.

As for the Red Wings, their offense is having issues. They’ve scored just two goals through two games and that’s not going to cut it. Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask has stood on his head and Detroit doesn’t have answers right now. That’s why the Bruins are the better choice for your NHL picks.

The Detroit Red Wings Can Win Because…
They are back at home. The Red Wings accomplished what they needed to do: split the two games in Boston. Now they’re back at home where they should get a boost playing in front of their own audience.

This was supposed to be one of the biggest mismatches in the playoffs but Detroit has already proven that they can play with Boston. They just need to avoid giving Boston goals, slow their power play (two-for-four in Game 2) and be more disciplined. They did it in Game 1. They can do it in Game 3.

Outlook & Pick
Home ice may not be a great advantage for the Red Wings. They score just 2.51 goals per game at home (23rd in NHL) compared to 2.78 on the road (fifth). As for Boston, they’re the league’s highest-scoring road team and went 23-12-6 away from home. It’s worth mentioning that Detroit was a sub-.500 team at home, going 18-13-10.

The Bruins offense got going in Game 2. Bet on them to keep it up in Game 3 and get the win.
