The Boston Bruins got a rude wakeup call in Game 2. After an easy Game 1 victory, the Bruins were manhandled by the young and suddenly confident Toronto Maple Leafs. Boston could have taken solid control of the series but now all of the sudden are in a dog fight.
So was it just the first game jitters for Toronto or are they ready to seriously compete? We’ll find out in Game 3.
The Boston Bruins can win because…
They’ll get back to basics. Boston is the more physical of the two teams but they didn’t play that wan in Game 2. In Game 1, they rocked the Maple Leafs and pushed them around. In Game 2, the Leafs set the tone as they outhit the Bruins 22-10 in the first period. For Boston, they need to get back to their physical style and show the Leafs who is the boss.
This is still the team that is more experienced and understands the ebbs and flows of a playoff series. One loss won’t set them back.
The Toronto Maple Leafs can win because…
They have their feet under them, they are confident and they are ready to roll. The Maple Leafs have a very young roster loaded with a number of players who had never even played a playoff game. People making their NHL picks bet against the Leafs in Game 1 because they simply lacked the experience. However, the Leafs showed up for Game 2 and proved that experience is not going to be a factor. They roughed up the Bruins and outplayed them at both ends of the ice.
The Bruins were a much better home team (16-8) than road team (12-12), so changing the venue to Toronto could really affect them. If Toronto played well in Boston, there’s a good chance that carries over now that they’re back home.
Outlook & Pick
The Leafs played like they had nothing to lose in Game 2 and it paid off. However, coming back home and performing in front of their home fans could add to the pressure. Even though I don’t like the NHL odds here, laying juice with the Bruins, I still think they get the win here.
