The Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens have been vying for the coveted top spot and No. 2 seed and Saturday’s matchup could got a long way into determining who gets it.

NHL Betting: Bruins vs. Canadiens Picks

Record: 111-124 (-506)

The Boston Bruins can win because…

They are heating up right now. They’ve won three straight and were boosted by the trade deadline acquisitions of Jaromir Jagr and Wade Redden. Their defense and goaltending is sparkling once again as they’ve shutout two of their last three opponents while giving up two goals in their last three.

These teams go tit-for-tat most of the time in very evenly-played contests but the Bruins additions at the trade deadline should be the difference. The Habs stood pat and that could cost them down the stretch of the season and in the playoffs.

The Montreal Canadiens can win because…

They are playing well right now. The Habs have won four of five and continue to maintain as the second-best team in the Eastern Conference. Encompassed in that hot streak is a 6-5 shootout win in Boston, so they’ve already showed the Bruins who’s boss. As a matter of fact, the Habs have now won two straight against the Bruins.

The Bruins are struggling for offense these days as they are playing without Patrice Bergeron. He had two goals and five assists in the last two meetings between the teams. Not having him on the ice is a big loss to the Bruins.

Outlook & Pick

The Bruins are a road dog in this spot and that’s where I’m going to go with my NHL picks. The road team seems to thrive in this series as the Bruins have won the last three meetings in Montreal. I’ll take a shot with them to win a fourth.

Pick: Bruins +115 at Pinnacle
