According to NHL betting odds the Bruins are a -175 money line road favorite and the posted total is 5.0. The road team has won 5 of the last 6 meetings between these two clubs. These teams have seen just 4 of their last 21 meetings stay under the total. The Bruins are currently 1st in the Atlantic Division, and 2nd overall in the Eastern Conference. The Sabres enter tonight last in both the Atlantic Division, and Eastern Conference overall. These two teams will meet again on Saturday in Boston.
Much Needed Win
The Sabres come off a much needed 4-2 home win over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. Buffalo overcame a 2-0 2nd period deficit by scoring 4 unanswered goals, including 3 of those coming in the 3rd period. The win was just the 5th in 19 home games for the Sabres this season. Buffalo has made a series of personnel moves within the organization since Teddy Nolan has taken over as head coach, and Pat Lafontaine as the President of Hockey Operations. Buffalo has sent some of their youngest players down to their American League affiliate in Rochester, and brought up experienced players like Matt Ellis, Kevin Porter, and Alexander Sulzer. Although they're results haven't dramatically improved, the quality of their play, and their willingness to compete has.
There's No Let Up in Bean Town
The Bruins continue to grind out wins on a consistent basis in a manner that just wears their opponents down on a nightly basis. Boston has smothered teams defensively this season, allowing just 2.0 goals per game, which is 2nd best in the NHL. They come off a 2-0 shutout win over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night, giving them their 5th win in the last 6-games, and their 7th in the last 9. Tuukka Rask stopped all 21 Calgary shots on goal to record his 3rd shutout already this season. In 27 starts this season Rask has posted a 1.90 GAA, and an excellent .934 save percentage. The Bruins have allowed 2-goals or less in 8 of their last 9-games.
Any money line road favorite of -200 or less that's playing in the first half of the season, they're coming off a home shutout win, they have a winning record on the season, versus an opponent with a losing record, is 37-7 (84.6%) since the beginning of the 1996-1997 season. Stick with the money line the sportsbooks have laid down for this one. We'll add the Bruins over the Sabres to our NHL Picks.
