NHL Betting: Blues vs. Canucks Picks

The St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks were supposed to be two of the best teams in the Western Conference but so far, only one team has played that way. The Blues have been nothing more than a middling squad this season and they’ll need to shore up their back end or their Stanley Cup dreams will not come to fruition.

Record: 42-50 (-751)

The St. Louis Blues can win because…

They’ve won two straight and righted the ship. They had lost five in a row before earning an important, momentum-changing win in Detroit and they backed that up with an impressive 5-2 win over Calgary.

This is a team that is 5-2-0 on the road this season and is very comfortable playing away. Vancouver is coming off a 4-3 loss at home to Dallas, which shows that they are vulnerable on their own ice.

The Vancouver Canucks can win because…

The Blues are a wreck on defense right now. Yes, they’ve won their last two games but they are still giving up goals at an alarming pace. The Blues have allowed a whopping 31 goals in their last seven games and that might not change soon. It doesn’t look like Jaroslav Halak is projected to start on Sunday, which means we’ll see the inexperienced Jake Allen again. The Canucks should be able to take advantage.

It’s not just goaltending for St. Louis as their defense and penalty kill has been extremely. The Canucks are a small favorite on the NHL odds and they should get the job done at home against a team that’s really struggling.

Outlook & Pick

I’m going to continue to stick with the Blues getting the score pushed to the Over for now. The variables haven’t changed and until we see Halak back in the lineup and the team playing air tight defense once again, I’ll be sticking with the over for my NHL picks.
