The Blues will come out smoking in this one as they try to win a Central Division crown, and their First Period will catch fire, so lay the juice and make a profit with our NHL Pick on the ice tonight.

No matter how much confidence I have in one teams ability to beat another I can't bring myself to bet a favorite of more than -200.  I don't like going over -150 on HNL Odds but in some cases I'll make an exception because of the circumstance. This will be one of those games that I'll look to a first period line because we are getting more value and have to lay less.  We found a reasonable -185 at most books but still shop around because others are higher.  I like this more because I think this is going to be a lower scoring game with the first period outcome likely to be a win or a push.  With the Central Division on the line for the Blues I'm not counting on the Coyotes to be the more motivated of the two teams on the road.  I expect the Coyotes will have some feeling of satisfaction after their 3-0 shutout of the Washington Capitals.  Its hard to believe there wasn't more motivation to get out of the game without injuries for Barry Trotz than it was to actually win but Arizona should still feel good about the win.  The problem with bad teams is that kind of win rarely crosses over to the next game.

Jake Allen will not start for the Blues after suffering an undisclosed injury against Colorado.  Brian Elliot stayed in St. Louis to rest of for this game but when you read that there is this air of the reason being something else.  I can't say I've heard to many goaltenders not making a road trip because they were resting up.  Elliot was pulled after two periods against the Boston Bruins but didn't get the loss which keeps his unbeaten streak intact now at 9-0 with a 1.92 goals against average in his last 11 appearances. He's been even better since his return from a LBI on March 19th going 4-0 with a 1.29 GAA and three shutouts.

The Blues have been defensive masters since March 18th being within 4:15 of marking up their fifth shutout since. The Blues have outscored their opponents 25-8 during a 6-1-0 run with six of those coming against the Boston.

St.Louis is four points ahead of Chicago for home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs as things stand now.

The Blues have not had much problem beating Arizona as they owns a 10-0-1 mark in their last 11 match-ups including 5-0-1 at home and three straight.

The Coyotes are averaging a leagues worst 1.7 goals in their last 16 road games which isn't a great formula for success when you add in the Mike Smith has a 3.90 goals against average in six straight losses to the Blues.

The game as a whole isn't an option as an NHL Pick tonight, but when we cut it down to a 1st period number I can back that.
