The Detroit Red Wings host the Columbus Bluejackets at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday with faceoff set for 8:05 PM ET. Is there any angle on offer worth taking advantage of with our NHL picks tonight?

According to NHL odds, the Red Wings come in as the -140 favorite. Those more interested in placing their NHL picks on the total can decide on which side of 5.5 they prefer to sit on. Last season Columbus took 4 of the 5 meetings versus Detroit. However, the Red Wings are 28-9 in their last 37 at home versus Columbus.

Red Wings Begin to Roll

The Red Wings come off an impressive 3-2 road win over the Bruins on Monday afternoon. Henrik Zetterberg continued his hot start to the season by netting his 5th goal while Steven Weiss scored the game winner. After a brief 2-game losing streak Detroit has bounced back nicely to win 2 in a row. Backup goaltender Jonas Gustavsson made his first start of the season and was credited with the win. The 28-year old Swede stopped 28 of 30 Bruins shots. Jimmy Howard will be back between the pipes for Detroit tonight. Howard has posted a solid .922 save percentage on the year and even better .934 in 3 starts at home.

Columbus Day Again

The Columbus Bluejackets will look to get back on the winning track after suffering a 3-1 home loss to Boston on Saturday. Marian Gaborik has begun his first full season with Columbus, and is off to a great start with 2 goals and 4 assists to lead the team in scoring after 4 games. Gaborik is a 3-time 40-goal scorer doing it twice as a member of the Minnesota Wild, and just 2 seasons ago with the New York Rangers. Columbus is 2-0 on the road so far this season with wins at Buffalo and over the New York Islanders. Former Vezina Trophy winner Sergei Bobrovsky has been excellent in 2 road starts stopping 54 of 57 shots for a terrific .947 save percentage.

Final Analysis

Based on last season the Bluejackets are a confident team when facing Detroit. In addition Columbus will be playing on 2 days of rest while Detroit played in Boston yesterday afternoon. That being said, I have a small lean toward Columbus for today's sports picks, as I like them as the money line road underdog.
