Two NHL sides on poor runs look to get things back on track when Detroit hosts Columbus. Which side are we on for our NHL picks? Lucky for us, winning mega money just a click away.

We very well could be in for high scoring and thrilling game in the NHL when the Columbus Blue Jackets pay a visit to the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night. The last two Blue Jackets games have seen 13 goals, six for Columbus and seven against them, while the Red Wings have seen 19 goals in their last three games. In terms of hockey betting this means that you can pick up odds of +105  on this game going over 5.5.

Things seem to be going from bad to worse the Detroit will read wings as they have had yet another key player injured. That's on top of the five players that they have on injured reserve, including forwards Todd Bertuzzi (back) and Johan Franzen (hip) as well as defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo (collarbone). Goaltender Jimmy Howard looks questionable ahead of this clash after he finished Tuesday’s 4-3 overtime loss at Nashville with blurred vision.

I Smell Victory (and money)

But still, Columbus is +164 to win this game, and you can pick up NHL betting odds of +300 on the game ending tied. There's plenty more hockey odds out there but I think this game is a meat and potatoes clear winner sort of match.

While Detroit are on a very poor run and in danger of clocking up a fifth straight defeat tonight they will take heart from the fact that their guests are the league’s worst, and the Blue Jackets are without a  win on this road trip.

The Red Wings aren't the only side to have issues with injury and being forced in the name some tough decisions. After missing 13 games, Columbus activated right wing, Cam Atkinson off injured reserve, and Nick Drazenovic, has been called up to reinforce the injury-hampered Blue Jackets.

Streak / Slump / Streak

Detroit had been on a three-game winning streak before their four-game slump began, but I think that home advantage will be all the advantage that the need and throw my money behind the Red Wings. The bookies agree as they have the Wings winning at -200.

Within the straight head-to-head comparison Detroit has seven wins and six regulation losses while Columbus have four victories and 10 regulation losses. I’ve already mentioned home advantage  and that should be all you need to know as Detroit are 5-3-1 at home and Columbus are 1-6-0 on their travels.

It might seem like an odd time to back a home victory as the Red Wings have lost their last two home games but they've won the last three straight over the Blue Jackets at home and are 29-5-2 at home during regular season and playoffs against Columbus.

Despite the fact that the blue jackets took three points from their last two home games against a trip this season, they have gone and dropped six consecutive away games since a season-opening shootout win at Nashville. What's more they are 1 for 23 on the Power-Play during this unwelcome run, so feel confident in throwing some money behind the hosts. Make a play on Detroit for your NHL picks.
