Two of the worst teams in the NHL meet up on Wednesday night when the Columbus Blue Jackets visit the Calgary Flames. If you’re surprised that ESPN doesn’t have the rights to broadcast this game, so am I. This one should be a classic (sarcasm).

The Columbus Blue Jackets can win because…

They’re playing Calgary, who is an equally awful team. Both teams have 17 points and while Columbus has just three road wins (in 11 games), Calgary has just three home wins (in 10 games).

The Flames defense and goaltending have just packed it in. The Flames have allowed 30 goals in their last seven and have allowed at least three goals in every contest. Reto Berra has been getting all the starts and he’s got a GAA of 3.66 and a save percentage of .889. That’s reason enough to add Columbus to your sports picks on Wednesday.

The Calgary Flames can win because…

Columbus has been one of the worst teams in the NHL over the last month. They started the year 5-5-0 but have lost nine of 11 since. If you’re thinking of taking a shot with them on the NHL odds, keep in mind that they’re in a back-to-back situation after playing in Edmonton on Tuesday night, it’s their third game in four nights, and their sixth in nine. As evidenced by their performance in Edmonton on Tuesday when they lost 7-0, this is a team that’s out of gas.

As long as the Flames show up and put a moderate effort, they should win against a fatigued Blue Jackets team.

Outlook & Pick

Both teams have been victims of shoddy goaltending. The Blue Jackets have allowed three or more in four of their last five while the Flames have allowed three or more in seven straight. Add the over to your NHL picks. That’s the play that makes the most sense.
