Stanley Cup Finals Game 6
The Chicago Blackhawks will look to win their first Stanley Cup while playing at home since 1931 on Monday at 8:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, Chicago is a -165 money line favorite for Game 6 of these 2015 Stanley Cup Finals, and the posted total is 5.0.
Look at the Total
These teams have seen four of the first five games in this series stay under the total, including each of the previous three. Since the beginning of the 2014-2015 NHL regular season campaign, they’ve gone 6-1 under the number in their seven overall encounters. All three games played between these clubs at the United Center in Chicago this season have gone under the total.
Tampa Bay has allowed two goals or less in five of their last six games. The Lightning has gone a dismal 1-for-12 on the power play in the first five games of this Stanley Cup Final. However, they’ve also been able to kill of 11-of-13 power man advantage opportunities by Chicago.
Chicago has now gone 24-8 under the total versus Eastern Conference opponents this season. The Blackhawks are also 17-7 under the total this year after winning each of their previous two games.
Any team (Chicago) coming off two straight one goal wins, versus an opponent which has seen a combined three goals or less scored in each of their previous two games, resulted in that team going 61-28 (68.5%) under the total since 1996.
NHL Picks: Play on Tampa Bay and Chicago to go under 5.0
The Money Line
Although the Lightning enter this game attempting to stave off elimination, their confidence surely won’t wane because they’ve gone a perfect 11-0 this season following two straight losses. They’re also a perfect 3-0 when facing elimination during these 2015 NHL Playoffs, and are 8-4 during twelve away games this postseason.
Heavy favorites in the NHL odds, the Chicago Blackhawks organization has maintained an inordinate amount of stability with both their coaching staff and player roster in recent years. That certainly has paid huge dividends when looking at their accomplishments during that time. Chicago has advanced to the Western Conference Finals in 5 of the previous 7 years, and they’ve been to 3 of the last 6 Stanley Cup Finals. The Blackhawks have also gone an incredible 42-15 in Games 5 through 7 of a playoff series under current head coach Joel Quennville, and that includes a perfect 7-0 since 2013 when playing in a Game 6. During these 2015 NHL playoffs, Chicago has gone a stellar 8-2 on home ice.
Something has to give on Monday since both of these teams possess shining resumes pertaining to their chances. As I alluded to in a previous article, Tampa Bay will be playing in their 26th playoff game on Monday, and that ties the NHL record set by the Los Angeles Kings last year. Granted the Kings won the 2014 Stanley Cup, but that Los Angeles club had a plethora of postseason experience, and were participating in their third Finals series over a four year period. The Lightning is much more an inexperienced team in comparison, and fatigue at this juncture is certainly a concern. On the other hand, the Blackhawks have no shortage of playoff experience, and have played in three less games than the Lightning has during this 2015 postseason.
Chicago has a huge edge in experience in addition to being more stable in goal, and playing in front of a raucous home crowd certainly won’t hurt. I have a slight lean at this point toward the Chicago Blackhawks for one of my NHL picks on Monday.
NHL Picks: Play Chicago -165 on the money line over Tampa Bay
