The red-hot and undefeated Chicago Blackhawks (6-0-0) will be on the road tonight, as they prepare to face the Minnesota Wild (3-2-1) in a hockey matchup that features a couple of first place teams in their respective divisions, but while one team looks unstoppable the other looks to be just treading water.
The puck is scheduled to drop at 8:05 PM EST, with the scenery coming from the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota. If you can’t make the game live, NBC Sports will be broadcasting the matchup on television for your viewing pleasure.
The Blackhawks opened up as -120 money line favorites on the betting odds boards, but already there has been a spike in the line, as some sportsbooks have pushed it up 10 cents to -130. The total seems to be consistent with all the sportsbooks, as 5 1/2 goals is the number to wager on whether you are going over or under.
Chicago is an 86-year old franchise and there 6-0 start is the best in team history. They are getting the job done through stellar goaltending, a solid offense and by not giving up points on the power play.
The Blackhawks remain one of two teams still undefeated in the NHL that includes four of their six victories coming on the road.
Chicago, while winning early and often has keep most of their games low scoring. In fact, they are under in their last four games overall and five of seven when allowing two goals or fewer in their previous matchup.
The Blackhawks have also had recent success against the Wild as of late, winning four of the last five meetings when the game is being played in Minnesota.
Speaking of Minnesota, the Wild are an impressive 6-2 in their last 8 games played at home, but only 3-13 when facing a team from the Central Division.
The Wild avoided a fourth straight defeat on Tuesday against Columbus, as they let a 2-0 lead slip away, but rallied back to come away with a 3-2 victory.
Minnesota has also been involved in low scoring affairs lately, as they are under in four of six games played at home and three of four following a win.
The Blackhawks are in a zone right now and are clicking on all cylinders, while the Wild can’t seem to find its grove, as they have proven to be inconsistent in the early going. That formula spells trouble for Minnesota, as we expect Chicago to win yet again on the road for our NHL picks of the night.
