The Wild desperately need Game 3 to keep their hopes alive but they might not have the tools to get the job done.
The Chicago Blackhawks can win because…
They have woken up. The Blackhawks needed a little bit of an adjustment period entering the playoffs and they got it. Now that they are awake, the Wild are in trouble.
People making their NHL Picks on this series were surprised to see that the Blackhawks big guns couldn’t get anything going in Game 1. As a matter of fact, it was the Blackhawks’ third and fourth lines that saved them. However, the big guns came out in Game 2 as the Blackhawks tallied five goals while peppering Josh Harding with 48 shots.
While Harding surprised in Game 1 with a stellar outing, he came back down to Earth in Game 2. The Wild aren’t a really good team to begin with and this series won’t last much longer if they have to keep using their backup goaltender.
The Minnesota Wild can win because…
…is there a reason? I’d like to say the home-ice advantage should help but the Wild have dropped six of their last seven at home.
The Wild are doing their best with what they’ve got but it’s clearly not enough. This is a mismatch. Don’t be bold betting the Wild hear. If you don’t like the Blackhawks, take a look at the NHL odds total or some other sporting event.
Outlook & Pick
The Wild are not in good shape – literally. Not only are they beaten down morally, they had to play game two without three key players: Backstrom, Clayton Stoner and Jason Pominville. Even if these guys are ready for Game 3, it’s hard to envision them being particularly healthy.
The Blackhawks are rolling now and there’s no looking back. Avoid all the juice on the NHL odds but take them on the puck line.
