The Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings are the last two teams to win the Stanley Cup. However, if you look at how both teams are playing these days, you’d have a tough time believing that. So where does our handicapper believe the best value lies for our NHL picks?

The Chicago Blackhawks Can Win Because…

The Kings have decided to stop scoring goals these days. If you’re adding the Kings to your sports picks, its’ buyer beware: they’ve tallied just three goals in their last six games. They’ve been shut out three times in that span.

Overall, they’ve dropped eight of nine and 15 of 20. Is that the type of team you want to be laying juice with on the NHL odds? The Kings are playing without a shred of confidence these days, which makes it really hard to back them.

The Los Angeles Kings Can Win Because….

The Blackhawks are struggling as well. You might not realize that as the Blackhawks are still second in the Western Conference with 80 points but that’s a tad misleading. They’ve lost five of six and 10 of 15. The difference is that nine of their last 12 losses have come in extra time, so they are collecting points for losses. That doesn’t do you any good if you’re using them for your NHL picks since for bettors, a loss is a loss. The Blackhawks 14 overtime losses are the most in the NHL. If we weren’t handing out free points for losing, the Blackhawks would only have 66 points this season, which is the same amount that the Kings have.

Outlook & Pick

This is a tricky game to handicap as both teams are slumping. Under makes sense as the Kings are scoring these days while the Blackhawks have just 12 goals in their last five. However, I’ll take the Blackhawks since they are the dogs. They’ve at least been competitive while the Kings haven’t shown much of a pulse.
