The Los Angeles
Kings Can Win Because…
They’ve already won a Game 7 on the road this postseason…twice. That’s right, the Kings had to go to San Jose in the first round to steal Game 7 and then they did it in Anaheim in Round 2. Suffice to say, this is a position they are comfortable being in.
The Kings offense is clicking. They’ve scored an average of 4.4 goals per game over the last five in this series. All they need is their defense and goaltending – which is their bread and butter – to step up and play like it has all season long. They allowed a league-best 2.05 goals per game in the regular season. If they can get back to that, they’ll win.
The Chicago Blackhawks Can Win Because…
They don’t lose at home very often. So far this postseason, the Blackhawks have only lost once in nine games at the United Center. Beyond that, they’ve figured out how to get by Jonathan Quick thanks to the prowess of Patrick Kane. He’s now scored or assisted eight of the last nine Blackhawks goals, which is incredible. The Blackhawks needed their stars to step up and he’s clearly done that. On top of that, their special teams has come to life with power play goals in back-to-back games. They’re the defending, Stanley Cup champs. They’re not going to lose a Game 7 on their home ice – especially not with momentum back on their side.
Outlook & Pick
The Kings are 6-0 in elimination games this postseason. The Blackhawks have cashed in nine of their last 11 in that situation. Picking a side in this one looks challenging, so I’ll take the over with my NHL picks. A total of five is simply too low when you consider that there has only been one under in this series and that was a 3-1 result in Game 1. Since then, we’ve seen an average of 7.6 goals per game.
