The New York Islanders endured a tumultuous stretch from the middle of November to the middle of December. However, they have a little bit of momentum going with four wins in their last six games. Another win against the league-leading Chicago Blackhawks would definitely start to open some eyes.
The Chicago Blackhawks can win because…
The Islanders defense is very leaky. The Isles have given up more goals than any other team in the Eastern Conference this season and the second-most in the NHL. That’s great news for the Blackhawks, who have a very potent offense. They have scored 158 goals this season, which is 19 goals more than the team that’s second in that category.
This is just an ideal matchup for the Blackhawks. They are 14-6 against sub-.500 teams this season while the Islanders are just 4-11 against teams with a winning record.

The New York Islanders can win because…
They’ve been great over the last couple of weeks. They’ve won four of six, registering wins in Minnesota and Boston, which gives them road victories over two quality teams that play especially well at home.
The Isles offense has finally woken up after a long slumber. They averaged just 2.20 goals per game in November and 2.43 in December, but have exceeded those averages recently. They’ve scored three or more in five of their last six while totaling 22 in the process. They can’t seem to stop their opponents from scoring, so their offense is the key to their success. As of right now, it’s working, which is why they’re worth adding to your sports picks.
Outlook & Pick
Laying -175 on the NHL odds with the Blackhawks is by no means a guarantee. The standings indicate that there’s a wide gap between these teams but the reality is quite different right now. The Isles have played well.
Instead of taking the side, I’ll take the over with my NHL picks as the Isles offense has played well recently while the Blackhawks should do their fair share of scoring as well against the welcoming Isles.
