The Wild are starting to believe they can make it into the playoffs. A win in the Winter Classic over the Blackhawks will boost their hopes, but will they be in our NHL picks?

Blackhawks vs. Wild Betting Preview
The Minnesota Wild have won three straight under new head coach John Torchetti and now look to do something they haven't done all season, win four straight. They are also trying to avoid setting a home winless streak of nine game (0-5-3). There is a difference between beating the Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, and the Calgary and trying to beat a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. This may not be a great time to get the Blackhawks who have scored 12 goals in their last two victories.

No matter how motivated Torchetti's team is, this is a Blackhawks team that has elimminated the Wild in each of the last three years from the playoffs. The Blackhawks have beaten Minnesota 6 of the last 10 in the series but are in a double revenge spot after 2-1 loss at the United Center, December 1st. That was the game when the Blackhawks gave the Wild too much room in the offensive zone while relying on Corey Crawford to carry the load (34 saves) . Defensemen Duncan Keith and Niklas HJalmarsson both finished with a -2 for the game. The Wild also beat the Hawks back in October, 5-4.

Today's game comes right after Chicago was shutout by Colorado's Semyon Varlamov, but the Hawks did have a season high 54 shots on goal but most came from the perimeter. They must get inside more which is more will than skill.

The Blackhawks are 4-3-1 in their last eight games, but the number one goals against team in the league has allowed 20 goals in their last six games. The Wild may be just the host they're looking, Minnesota has only scored 26 goals in their last ten games.

Bad news for the Wild penalty kill unit because the Blackhawks are now 8-13 on the power play in their last 3 games after going 2-29 in their ten previous games.

Chicago has the experience edge in outdoor games as they will be playing in their fourth. Minnesota has never played in a Winters Classic. Chicago's Jonathan Toews has two goals and five points in three outdoor contest, the most by any player. Patrick Kane has a point streak in four games.

Betting Analysis & Pick
Early public bets are coming in on the Blackhawks for their Sunday's NHL picks, but large money players are sticking with the Wild for their NHL picks. The 'wise guys' are bucking a powerful trend. Chicago is 102-45 when their opponent scored two goals or less in their previous game. That simply means that if you came in with offensive problems, they aren't getting fixed by the Blackhawks. Chicago is 36-16 against teams with a losing record.

Some are ready to annoint the Wild participants in this year's playoffs, but lets not forget that the Wild are still 4-13 in their last 17 games, I have to see more fro them, so I can build confidence in handicapping them.
