Sharks Are Hoping Road Trip Keys A Turnaround
The San Jose Sharks are struggling mightily right now as they have won just three of their last 11 games and they have gone 3-5 at home this year, compared to 4-3 on the road. Tonight they begin they begin a road trip that will take them through six cities and they are hoping for a reversal of fortunes from the trip. They are struggling mightily right now and sometimes it’s best for a team to get away from the pressures of home when things are going bad and maybe this trip will help them. From Detroit it’s on to Buffalo, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Columbus. There may be a few wins in there. San Jose checks in at 8th in the league in scoring (2.6 gpg), but they are 30th in the league on the power play (11.4%), while on defense they are 17th in goals allowed (2.7 gpg) and 21st in penalty kill (77.4). Martin Jones should get the start here and he is 6-5 on the year with a 2.23 GAA, and this will be his first start ever vs Detroit. Mrazek Stands Tall In Win Over Washington The Washington Capitals are not a team that will be shut out all that often, but on Wednesday night Petr Mrazek did just that in Detroit’s 1-0 win. Mrazek just had an incredible game as he stopped 38 Washington shots in what turned out to be the best shutout performance from a Detroit goalie since 1966. Mrazek is now 5-3 on the year with a 2.07 GAA. Both he and Jimmy Howard have identical 2.07 GAA’s, but Howard is 3-4 on the year. It is unclear who will start this game. Scoring the lone goal in the win over Washington was Andreas Athanasiou. This was just the 2nd game ever in the NHL for the 22-year-old rookie and it was also his first goal ever in the NHL. Detroit Has now scored just six total goals in their last four games and overall it has been a struggle for them on offense, as they come in ranked 25th in the league in scoring at 2.3 gpg. At the defensive end of the ice Detroit is 8th in the league in goals allowed, giving up just 2.4 gpg.

San Jose: The Under is 4-1-1 in their last six vs. a team with a winning record The Under is 8-3-1 in their last 12 when their opponent allows two goals or less in their previous game

Detroit: The Under is 11-2-3 in their last 16 home games The Under is 14-3-4 in their last 21 after scoring two goals or less in their previous game

This one has Under written all over it. The Detroit Red Wings have been a weak scoring team all year and it seems to be getting worse for them as they have scored a total of just six goals in their last four games. Detroit home games have also gone 7-1 to the Under this year and the Under is 17-5 in their last 22 games playing on two days rest. San Jose may be 8th in the league in scoring, but they have scored two goals or less in six of their last 10 games. I see a nice low scoring game here.

NHL Pick: Sharks & Red Wings Under 5 (-120)
