The Anaheim Ducks have a date at the Islanders on Monday night, while the New York Rangers‘ struggles continued on Sunday night with a 7-3 loss. Who will be our NHL pick on this game?

NHL Pick: Rangers -143

Where, Oh, Where Is The Offense?
This has been a theme for the Ducks all year, but lately it has been even more of a problem. The Ducks will be coming off of a game vs the Islanders on Monday night and prior to that they did beat the Devils by a 2-1 score, but still this team has no offense at all. They come in ranked last in the league in scoring, putting up just 1.8 gpg, while converting on just 16.7% of their power play chances, which is 25th. Prior to the game vs the Isles they had scored just seven total goals in their last six games and they have been shut out seven times this year which is the most in the league.

Corey Perry is the leader on the team with 10 goals and Rickard Rakell and Chris Stewart each have six, but everyone else on the team has five or less; just not many scoring options for the Ducks this year. If they had even a respectable offense then this could be a solid team as they come in ranked 11th in goals allowed, giving up just 2.5 gpg, while allowing teams to convert on just 12.3% of their power play chances, which is 2nd in the league. Frederik Andersen should get the start in this game and he is 5-11 with a 2.46 GAA on the year, while vs the Rangers he has gone 1-1 with a 3.42 GAA.

Rangers Get Blasted at Home by the Capitals
The Dallas Stars may have the best record in the NHL right now, but the team playing the best hockey right now is the Washington Capitals. Watch out for this team as I feel they will win it all this year and the Rangers found out just how good they are on Sunday in the 7-3 loss. The Rangers fell behind 1-0 in the game, but by the end of the first period they had a 3-1 lead. After that it was all Washington as they scored the final six goals of the game. It was the third bad outing in a row for Henrik Lundqvist, who is 0-3 in his last three starts and has allowed 13 goals over that stretch. He was actually pulled in this game after he gave up five goals. Magnus Hellberg allowed the final two goals.

Lundqvist should still get the start here as he looks to turn things around and maybe a game vs the offensively challenged Ducks is just what he needs. Lundqvist is 15-12 on the year with a 2.43 GAA and vs the Ducks in his career he is 4-5 with a 2.52 GAA. The Rangers have now allowed 31 goals in their last six games and have fallen to 15th in the league in goals allowed, giving up 2.5 gpg, while also ranking 13th in penalty kill (81.7%). The offense is still solid for his team as they check in at 6th in scoring, putting up 2.9 gpg and 5th in power play conversions (21.6%). If they don’t fix that defense then this is a team in big trouble.

Anaheim is:

4-12 in their last 16 road games

0-8 in their last eight road games vs. a team with a home winning percentage of greater than .600

New York is:

15-5 in their last 20 vs. the Pacific

49-18 in their last 67 vs. a team with a winning percentage below .400

Betting Analysis
Bad offense meets bad defense in this one and I feel it will be the bad defensive team that comes out on top. The Ducks have no rest and have been a bad road team of late, while the Rangers have won four of the last five at home in the series and will be playing with a day’s rest. Lundqvist is just too good a goalie to struggle like he has and I expect those struggles to end here vs a team that just can’t score. Take The Rangers as the NHL pick to end their losing streak with a big win here against the NHL odds.
