Two of the NHL’s hotter teams meet on Sunday when the Vancouver Canucks visit the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings find themselves as a -135 favorite on the NHL betting lines for this affair.

The Vancouver Canucks Can Win Because…
They’re playing really well right now. The Canucks have won three straight and eight of their last 10 games. One of the main reasons for it is because goaltender Ryan Miller has been phenomenal between the pipes. He’s turned aside all of the shots he’s seen in the last two games and he’s allowed just one goal in his last three outings. When he’s on, the Vancouver Canucks are pretty hard to beat.

Although, Vancouver is on the road in this matchup, that shouldn’t really slow them down. They’ve actually been a better road team (9-3) than home team (7-4). They’ve won six of their last seven away games and if Miller plays the way he has been, there’s a good chance they make it seven of eight.

The Detroit Red Wings Can Win Because…
They’re cooking right now too. The Red Wings have won five of six and their offense has been fantastic. The Red Wings have scored at least four goals in each of those five wins and the main reason for it is their power play. The Red Wings have scored five power play goals in the last three games and now have the league’s top power play unit (31.5%) this month.

Jimmy Howard should be back in net for the Red Wings after getting the night off in the latest game and he’s been very good against Vancouver in recent matchups. Howard is 4-0-1 in his last five against the Canucks with a 1.07 GAA in his last four. On the surface, it might not look like the Red Wings have an advantage in net here but they do. Miller hasn’t fared well against Vancouver, winning just twice in 13 starts against them. He has a 3.37 GAA against the Red Wings, which is his single worst average against any one team. Take the Red Wings with your NHL picks here.

This is a bit of a tricky matchup to handicap as both teams are hot right now and both teams are playing pretty well. The Red Wings are at home but the Canucks are one of the best road teams in the NHL. The Canucks are on a roll thanks to Miller’s stellar play but he is horrible against the Red Wings. On top of that, the Red Wings offense is really clicking right now, so it’s hard to bet against them – especially at home.

I’m going to go with the over in this one as Miller’s numbers are hard to ignore when looking at the NHL odds. A 3.37 career GAA against the Red Wings combined with the fact that Detroit’s offense is on a roll should lead us over in this one. We’ve got a low total of five but the Red Wings haven’t played in a game that’s seen less than five goals in 11 straight.
