This game features two teams that are at the opposite ends of the spectrum in the Metropolitan Division as the New York Rangers currently lead the division.

No Fire Power, need to Reload
The Philadelphia Flyers are the worst scoring team in the league as they have put up just 1.7 gpg, but for the most part this year they have gotten off plenty of shots as they rank 13th in that department, putting up 30 shots per game. That was not the case in Wednesday’s loss at the Islanders, in which the Flyers were good for just 18 shots in the 3-1 loss. It makes it even tougher to score if you’re not getting shots. The lone goal in the game was scored by Claude Giroux, who leads the team with eight goals on the year. This is an offensive team lacking any punch.

Steve Mason took his 11th loss of the year in the game, but he really didn’t play badly as he faced 36 shots, stopping 33 of them. Facing a ton of shots is nothing new for Flyer goalies as the Flyers rank 29th in the league in shots allowed, giving up 33.1 shots per game. Michal Neuvirth should get the start in this game and he is 4-4 with a 2.07 GAA on the year, while vs the Rangers in his career he is 1-5 with a 4.60 GAA.

Rangers Hammered at Home vs Montreal
In a game that saw the Canadiens lose two players, including goalie Carey Price, the Rangers still had no answers for a strong Canadiens team as they were blasted by a 5-1 score. The Rangers have a game in Boston on Friday night and hope to be back on track before this game, but still they are still smarting from that bad performance at home vs Montreal. The Rangers were down just 2-1 in that game heading into the third period and Price didn’t come out in that period for Montreal, but still the Canadiens outscored New York 3-0 in the final frame. The Rangers totally lost focus as the end of the game.

Henrik Lundqvist also lost focus at the end as he allowed those three third period goals in the first 10 minutes before getting pulled in favor of Antti Raanta, who faced just 1 shot the rest of the way. Raanta should get the start in this game and he comes in at 4-0 on the year, with a 1.20 GAA. He has allowed just five total goals in his four starts this year. Raanta has faced the Flyers three times in his career and he is 2-1 with a 1.63 GAA in those games.

Philadelphia is:

10-26 in their last 36 road games vs. a team with a home winning percentage of greater than .600

13-41 their last 54 games on the road

New York is:

12-2 in their last 14 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 situation

38-13 in their last 51 vs.the Metropolitan

The Flyers have no offense and that will not change vs Antti Raanta, who has allowed just five goals on the year so far and he has a 1.63 GAA vs the Flyers in his career. Michal Neuvirth has had no success vs the Rangers in his career, posting a 1-5 mark with a 4.60 GAA. New York has a clear edge on offense and in the net, plus they have owned the Flyers in this building. This should be a very easy win for New York. Against the NHL odds, take Rangers as NHL pick.
