On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia Flyers will visit the Tampa Bay Lightning in what figures to be a very interesting matchup. Find out where we have decided to place our NHL picks in tonight's matchup.

The Flyers have been on an upswing but are coming off a loss while the Lightning ended a losing streak with a win in their latest contest.

Take a look at our NHL Picks: Wednesday's Picks of the Day for more free plays.

The Philadelphia Flyers can win because…

They’re playing their best hockey of the season. The Flyers are 6-1-1 in their last eight games, which is a significant turnaround since they started the year going 3-9-0 in their first 12 games. People who make their NHL picks have seen the Flyers start to score more (3.5 goals per game over their last eight) and the goaltending/defense has continued to be steady. Although he gets little national acclaim, Steve Mason has been excellent in net for the Flyers, posting a 2.17 GAA and a .931 save percentage. As long as he keeps playing like that, the Flyers should keep winning.

The Tampa Bay Lightning can win because…

The Flyers are coming off a loss in Florida. That clearly indicates they still have problems. Yes, the Flyers 6-1-1 stretch is impressive but as mentioned, they were awful to start the year. Experts making sports picks aren’t 100% certain that this hot spell isn’t just a short-term streak.

Tampa Bay is 9-2-0 at home this season and has won six straight in their own confines. Goaltender Ben Bishop is fresh off a shutout win and has allowed just one goal in his last two outings. He has a 2.08 GAA and a .931 save percentage. The Lightning are 14-3-1 when he’s between the pipes. If he’s in net, bet the Lightning.

Outlook & Pick

The Flyers lost for the first time in regulation in eight games in their last outing while the Lightning ended a four-game losing streak with a win in their latest contest. The Flyers have played well recently while the Lightning have played well all season long.

Since the side is a toss-up, I’ll focus on the total. There are two good goaltenders in this matchup and two teams that are hit or miss on offense. For that reason, I believe that the NHL betting odds have been set a bit high, and I expect this game to fall well short of the 5.5 points that sportsbooks are asking for.
