With three games can the New York Rangers catch the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second spot in the Metro? Come in and profit from the answer to this question by wagering on our NHL Pick.

Another day, another mad rush to the window to back the Tampa Bay Lightning.  We discussed yesterday how is really doesn't make any sense until the Lightning show some stability after the loss of Steven Stamkos for 1-3 months. Bettors pushed the Lightning from dog to favorite against the Islanders only to watch New York come away with an easy 5-2 win.  Ben Bishop was pulled form the Tampa net in the third period. Tampa is now 1-1 without Stamkos.

The Lightning not only looked bad offensively but defensively they could only be described as lazy, considering they gave up four breakaways in the second period . They seemed hesitant in the offensive zone which is common when your superstar is out of the lineup. It appeared they were looking for someone to step up and lead the way.

The Rangers opened at -130 on NHL Odds and have been bet down to -130 in some spots although I expect the market to rebound which should leave the number at -30 or even higher as the day progresses.  It looks as if the 'wise guy' money came in early hoping to catch the Lightning at a plus price but the public should counter that quickly because they usually use common sense which tells you to lay off the Lightning in this spot. New York should also be in the mode of sending a message to the team that eliminated them from last season's playoffs by beating New York in a game seven at the Garden.

The injury to Ryan McDonagh has something to do with the line movement.  McDonagh left in the first period against Columbus with an upper body injury after blocking a shot.  He will be reevaluated today after which an update on his status will be given.

Despite the injury the Rangers have been a solid play at the Garden winning 25 of 38 with 4 extra session losses. They still bring one of the better offenses in the league ranking sixth in scoring at 2.85 goals per game.  The Rangers now have five 20 goal scorers which is the first time since 2010-2011 that they've achieved that. They are one of only three teams with that offensive luxury this season

Although Bishop and Henrik Lundqvist are expected to start in goal there wasn't a morning skate for eaither team so it will be closer to game time before we know for sure.  There are some reports that Andrei Vasilevskiy will be the starter but that won't change our opinion on the game.

From a trend perspective you may want to take a peak at the 'under' which has recorded a 16-7-1 record for Tampa when playing the fourth game in six days situation. Even more to think about with Stamkos.

Tampa hasn't been very good when playing the second game of a back to back as they have dropped 11 of their last 16.

-140 is a fair price for the Rangers at home tonight, so we'll make them our NHL Pick tonight.
