Caps Rally from Three Down to Beat the Bolts
The Washington Capitals are rolling right now as they have won 11 of their last 13 to take over the top spot in the Eastern Conference and they just keep finding ways to win games, even where they don’t play their best. That’s what happened on Friday night when they fell behind 3-0 to Tampa Bay, but battled back with a four goal third period to win the game by a 5-3 score. This is what good teams do and the Caps are a good team. Alex Ovechkin (15th & 16th) and T.J. Oshie (11th & 12th) each scored two goals in the game, while also scoring was Marcus Johansson, which was his 6th of the year.

Grabbing the win was Philipp Grubauer, who was brought in to replace Holtby, who allowed three goals in the game. Grubauer stopped all seven of Tampa Bay’s shots the rest of the way to pick up the win. He is now 3-3 with a 2.53 GAA on the year. Holtby should be back in goal here and he is having a great year as he comes in at 8-3 on the road with a 1.90 GAA, while overall he is 20-5 with a 1.92 GAA and vs the Rangers in his career he has gone 3-8 with a 2.57 GAA. The Caps are 3rd in the league in scoring (3.0 gpg) and 2nd in power play conversions (25%), while on defense they are 2nd in goals allowed (2.2 gpg) and 6th in penalty kill (83.9%).

Rangers Get Blasted in Winnipeg
The Rangers are not playing well at all right now and they come in off a 5-2 road loss to the Winnipeg Jets. This follows a 5-2 loss in Minnesota. The Rangers have now lost seven games in a row on the road and in their last four away from home it has been the play in goal that has doomed them as they have allowed 22 goals in their last four away from home. Henrik Lundqvist took the loss in the game vs the Jets and now has two losses in a row, allowing four goals in each loss. He is now 15-11 on the year with a 2.30 GAA, while at home he is 10-3 with a 1.94 GAA. He has had good success vs the Rangers, going 19-11 with a 2.50 GAA vs them.

Scoring for the Rangers in the loss to the Wild was J.T. Miller, who scored his 6th of the year and Brian Boyle, who notched his 3rd of the season. The Rangers haven’t had many scoring problems this year, but they have now scored just two goals in each of their last two games. For the year the Rangers are now 6th in the league in scoring, putting up 2.9 gpg and 4th in power play conversions (21.7%), while on defense they check in at 11th it the league in goals allowed, giving up 2.4 gpg and 8th in penalty kill (83%).

Washington Trends:
8-2 in their last 10 games following a win
42-17 in their last 59 games playing on one day’s rest

New York Trends:
1-5 in their last six games playing on one day’s rest
1-5 in their last six games following a loss of three or more goals

Betting Analysis
The Rangers are really struggling and I don’t feel it will be something they can fix vs this strong Caps team that just keeps finding ways to win games. The Caps are the best team in the East and may be the best team in the NHL with the best goalie in the game right now. The Rangers slide will continue here so fade them with your NHL Picks.
