The Red Wings host the Bruins on Wednesday at the Joe Louis Arena with the opening faceoff scheduled for 7:35 PM ET. Is there any betting value in this matchup worth jumping on with our NHL picks tonight?

According NHL betting odds Boston is a -115 money line road favorite and the posted total is 5.0. Detroit is 5-1 in their last 6-games versus Boston. These two clubs have seen just 3 of their last 14 meetings.

Take a look at our NHL Picks: Wednesday's Picks of the Day for more free plays.

Getting Back on Track

After enduring a 7-game losing streak, the Red Wings have bounced back to win 2 of their last 3. However, they've inexplicably lost 9 of their last 10 home games. The only silver lining being that 6 of those 9 losses came in overtime and they were able to salvage 8-points in that 10-game home funk. The Red Wings #1 goaltender Jimmy Howard is 0-7 in his last 7 starts. As a result Jonas Gustavvson was in goal in their last game which resulted in a 3-1 win at Buffalo. Gustavvson is now 5-1 in 6 starts this season, with his only loss coming in overtime. In all likelihood it’s Gustavvson who gets the nod tonight versus Boston. The Red Wings will likely be without the services tonight of their second leading scorer Pavel Datsyuk who is recovering from concussion like symptoms.

Boston Strong!

The Bruins enter tonight having won 8 of their last 10-games. They've lived a bit on the edge in their recent 3-game home stand with all of those contests going to overtime. They did manage to win 2 of those 3. Boston has been rock solid on the road this season going 6-3. They continue to be the unquestioned best defensive team in the NHL allowing just 1.8 goals per game. Tuukka Rask is off to a fantastic start to the season. Rask has posted an excellent 1.69 GAA and .943 save percentage in 20 starts. The Bruins are currently 1st overall in the Eastern Conference, 3-points ahead of the 2nd place Pittsburgh Penguins, and they have 1-game in hand.

NHL Totals Super System

Any team playing in the first half of the season, that comes off 2 or more home wins in a row, and has a winning percentage of .600 to .700, versus an opponent with a winning percentage of .400 to .490, has seen 55 of those 82-games (67.1%) go under the total since the beginning of the 1996-1997 season. For that reason I am happy to back the UNDER with my NHL picks in this situation.
